We had the good fortune to have dinner one night recently at The Old Five Mile House on a night that Bill Douglass and John Girton playing jazz. It is not often that one gets to hear world-class jazz in such a nice little venue. I would like to thank the Five Mile owners for supporting live music. I would also encourage folks to check out the restaurant and hear Bill and John.
In talking to Bill, we learned of the Sierra Jazz Camp. Our son is a bass player going to school at LSU and we took the opportunity to enroll him in the Sierra Jazz Camp last week. The faculty members at the camp are outstanding and our son really enjoyed the experience. It was so good that he is ready to get back in the groove.
Thanks to Bill Douglass and Nora Nausbaum, plus the other dedicated faculty for continuing the camp. It is a treasure for Nevada County residents.

Jazz swings and they "swung". The Jazz Camp performance last Sunday was incredible! I could see and feel the focus, commitment and love by the students for this music. Flutes, trumpets, sax, drums, piano, bass, even a sweet accordion.......joined with the pro faculty to create swinging big band and solo sounds. Right on it! Congrats to Bill Douglas and Nora Nausbaum, Jazz Camp creators, for creating 5 days for learning and performing jazz with excellence and joy for this community. Looking forward to next year's Jazz at Jazz Camp!
